Rainbow Moot

The Rainbow LGBT Moot

The Rainbow Moot (prevously known as the Fountain) meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 8pm in the meeting room of the Wellington Hotel. The moot is the only LGBT moot in Birmingham but that does not mean that heterosexuals are not welcome, it does mean that they should respect the fact that it is a gay group meeting in a gay venue. We will be discussing all the usual topics that are covered in other moots but from the perspective of our experiences.

When the idea was first posted on UKPagan.com about having a ‘Gay’ moot there were questions asked about why there should be a separate moot? In a perfect world there would be no call for a 'gay' moot however we do not live in a perfect world, we living in a world where the laws of the land treat gay people differently from heterosexuals, where people are still rejected by others because of their sexuality. While most pagans are welcoming there is still the underlining question that a gay person has when attending a straight group. will I be accepted? or the more tired version do I have to come out again! In short we felt there was a need but what was surprising was the number of people who turned up who don’t go to other moots in Birmingham.

At the first moot we decided to become part of the Pagan Association (PA). That does not mean you have to be a member of the PA to attend a pub moot, it does mean that your going to hear about a lot more things that are happening in the local area. However if someone has been barred from PA events we will respect this ask them no to attend without first speaking to the Moot organisers.

We now have a notice board for people to put up any relevant information that may interest to the group, (if you have anything you would like to tell the group about but can’t be there email rainbowmoot@lycos.co.uk) If you run a pagan shop in Birmingham or you are planning an event please let us know.

There are so many different view points and traditions within the group that we should be able to draw speaks from the group for quite some time. The structure of the moots will be a long talk once a month with the second gathering having a shorter talk and more time to mix and socialise.

The Wellington Hotel is a very bright and friendly venue with a large meeting room that holds 100 people with ease. The hotel offers good value accomidation so if you wanted to come from out of town you would not have far to go to find somewhere to stay, to book a room call 0121 622 2592 and please let them know where you heard about them.
